What happens if a 200 watt solar panel generates 11 or 12 amps with a Bluetti 180ac?

I just recently bought a Bluetti ac180 solar generator.

What happens if a 200 watt solar panel generates 11 or 12 amps with a Bluetti 180ac? A lot of the solar panels available are 18 to 19.9 volts which will generate over 10 amps. I am trying to look at panels that generate 20 or more volts. Bluetti’s panel are not completely waterproof and I like to go to star parties, we have in the past been hit by surprise thunderstorms at the NSP in particular. Also at the Iowa Star Party.

Your ac180 self limits the incoming amperage to its maximum limit. Your panels can generate more than that limit but the 180 will only allow the set amount incoming. No problem.

Hi @thaimann
Amps are not the problem. The A180 just pull a much as needed. The value you need to pay attention if is voltage. This gets “pushed” from the panel to your AC180. If your overvoltage the MPPT, the risk to kill it forever is really high.

Well the ac180 can handle up to 60 volts can’t it? I am planning on just getting one 200 watt panel for right now.

Yes, AC180 can handle up to 60V. No need to worry if you just using a standard 200W Panel.

AC180 Limits DC charge to 8.0 amps with voltages between 12v and 32v, then allows the stated 10.0 amps charge until it reaches the 500w maximum input.

Therefore most 200w panels (which are around 20v) will only ever deliver around 160w maximum when used on their own.
