Solar panels charging eb55 and a second battery

Have a trailer with these solar panels wired in parallel:

I want to split the output to my eb55 via xt60 and this:

The charge controller will charge a permanent battery for lights and fan.

Will I have any issues having both charging at the same time?

Hi @1Woody and welcome tothe forum!

Splitting the output from your solar panels to charge both your EB55 and a permanent battery seems doable. Your charge controller takes up to 25 VDC as per its spec sheet, and that’s about what EB55 accepts, so they seem to operate in the same voltage range.

Few things come to mind though:

  • Check that the combined current draw from the EB55 and the charge controller does not exceed the output capacity of your solar panels. I can’t predict how they’ll react to poor solar conditions though.

  • If using a Y splitter, consider using blocking diodes to prevent backflow of current and ensuring that power flows in the correct direction.

This being said - Why not connect EB55’s input to the RV’s 12V cig lighter?
