PV Priority

Hi,

I have a question about my Bluetti system in Self-consumption mode.

When the sun is shining and the PV panels are producing, the app shows that the unit still draws part of the power from the grid, at the same time as from PV. If I disconnect the grid input, then the PV immediately covers the whole load, so there is clearly enough solar power available.

In Working Mode I only have these options: Backup, Self-consumption, Time of Use and Custom (there is no “PV Priority UPS” option). In Advanced Settings I only see things like Max. Grid Input Current, AC Output Frequency, etc.

My questions are:

  1. Why does the system keep using some power from the grid in Self-consumption mode even when there is available PV power?
  2. How can I configure it so that it fully prioritizes solar (PV) as long as there is sunlight, and only uses the grid as a backup?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello, what is the model of your device? The UPS has a solar priority mode that allows you to set a preset value. The AC can only charge up to this preset value. When the SOC exceeds this preset value, the remaining capacity can only be charged by the PV, and the load is supplied by both the PV and the battery.

I also use the self consumption mode. The Apex will draw grid power to match load until the battery SOC reaches 10% above setting. They do this so that if panels get shaded (clouds) that the Apex doesn’t keep switching between the grid and the battery for its source of power. Once you hit 10% above target the unit will switch to battery for it’s source and no grid power will be drawn again until the battery SOC once again decreases to the target setting. Basically a 10% buffer to minimize switching. I try and adjust my setting as the days get either longer or shorter to try and hit 100% on a really good sunny day at the end of the solar day. If that doesnt happen in a week or so, I will then temporarily raise the SOC to 100% just so the batteries can recalibrate the BMS.

Apex 300 With B300K, now for example i have maximum solar hour in my zone and is mixing consumption from grid and from pv, and if i take out power cable from grid, al consumption go to PV (like 300-400W)

thanks
