I just received a new AC180 and will be using it to run a 12VDC refrigerator while the RV is being towed. Once I get to a campground, I can swap over to 115VAC power.
What I am not sure of is how I can connect this 12VDC unit to the AC180 unless I modify the DC power cord on the refrigerator to a USB connection that I can plug into the AC180.
Any suggestions or tips on how to do this? Is there a two prong power cord to USB converter out there that someone has used?
Another thing to consider - I tow a 2T trailer (caravan), it bounces around when being towed. As Eric mentioned, the cig plug is the only 12VDC outlet and they are notorious for vibrating out in transit. You may find when you get where you are going this has happened and the fridge has not been working. It has happened to me many years ago.
I have an Engel in my 4x4 which came with a 12V cig plug. The first thing I did was cut it off and replace with Anderson plug. This, for me, was great as I made my auxiliary battery outlets, all Anderson plugs. Unfortunately, most power stations don’t use Anderson and for you not an option.
The better option would be - You say that your fridge operates at 115VAC at camp (like my Engel does) then, plug it into the AC180s 115VAC socket whilst driving. There will be a small parasitic load impost on the battery use, but it is far more secure.
@Mandp That is an excellent suggestion. I’m tearing out the old solar system in the trailer tomorrow, so you comment is quite helpful and timely as well!
