I watched a few Youtube vids on field recharging the battery on the AC180 using another 12V LiFePo battery using clamps and wired into a 12V to 24V converter and wiring a DC7909 plug for input to the AC180. I have built the interconnect using non-bluetti parts. I have read that the DC7909 should have positive voltage on both the center pin as well as the inside shell with negative on the outside shell. Is that correct? My Amazon pin only has positive voltage on the inside shell and the center pin is open. Will my configuration not work if the DC7909 center pin doesn’t have positive voltage on both center pin and inside shell?? Thanks for any guidance.
@PVille The inner center pin of the BLUETTI 7909 cable and the inner wall of the outer large circle are the positive terminal. The outer wall is all negative. What you mean is that the center pin is open, the inner wall is positive, and the outer wall is negative. That’s no problem.
With the center pin “Open” are you saying I won’t have a problem Transferring 24 volts to the AC180 from another 12 volt LiFePo battery to recharge the AC180 battery?
Thank you,
Ron
This is fine. It is more recommended to charge the AC180 directly with a 12V lithium iron phosphate battery.
Well I am now a little confused. I just received my AC180 and I tested the lines of the MC4 cables to DC7909. I do get continuity to both the inner shell and the center pin from the solar cable. No problem. But that is different from the DC7909 connector that I bought off Amazon in which the center pin is open. I just want to make sure that the AC180 will take a charge without that center pin connected.
I have a spare 12V 100Ah LiFePo battery that I want to connect to the AC180 through battery clamps into a 12V to 24V upconverter connected to the Amazon DC7909 connector plugged into the AC180. I don’t want to risk blowing something up because the Amazon DC7909 connector didn’t have the center pin tied to positive.
Thank you for your help from this newbie.
Ron
@PVille This is no problem. Even if the center pin is open, as long as the inner wall is positive and the positive is connected to the positive, it will be fine. Remember not to reverse the positive and negative connections.
