Elite 30v2 UPS switching time increases above certain load?

Hi,

I’ve just received my Elite 30V2 which has 600W output with a goal to test UPS functionality before splashing on more expensive products, with several desktop computers and servers I run. I have noticed that while AC output is under 350W, UPS switching works fine pretty consistently, whereas anything above ~350-400W would be a flip of a coin whether or not it will switch fast enough and 500W+ would result in guaranteed failure. Computers will either have momentary video output flicker on power cut/restore which is relatively harmless or partially shut down on power cut (video output will go off and power output will drop to 80W with CPU fans spinning and will require hard reset).

Is this expected behaviour? And if so, is there some chart or rule of thumb of how much load these can take before UPS functionality stops being relevant for various models? Is there a way to alleviate the problem somehow?

I’m looking to buy Elite 100 V2 for my workstation which pulls around 650-800W (spikes) under full stress to use as UPS and was wondering if this is going to be a problem on bigger units as well?

In the mean time before this was approved for posting, someone suggested that it may be the case with my power supplies having a very low holdup time due to being SFX but according to Cybernetics report it should have 16ms hold up time (Cooler Master V850 SFX 2nd gen) and I’m well under 60% power use at 500W - which should be enough for claimed Elite 30’s <10ms switch.

I will do some more testing with different PSUs in the next few days, maybe it really is a problem with my devices specifically?

Hello, please check the error code by checking if the “!” pops up in the upper right corner of the APP information interface. Er is the current error code, HI is the historical error code or recording a video of a device.

As I’ve said, there are no errors on the Elite 30v2.

I’ve tested just now with Corsair RM1000x (2024) as well as Corsair AX1500i and both switched trouble-free at 580W load however both of these have over 20ms hold-up time. I also tested with another Cooler Master V850 SFX and it crashes PC too. Unfortunately, I don’t have similar 16ms power supplies from different brands to compare but at least we can rule out that this one specific PSU was faulty.

I’ve just gotten Elite 100 V2 (I’m overall happy with product performance after a week of testing Elite 30 V2 and it will work with my main workstation at least as power supply is more forgiving) and will see if machines using that specific power supply are still shutting down.

Unfortunately, I can’t get my hands on the oscilloscope for at least a few more weeks to definitely rule out where exactly the fault lies but I will circle back to this topic when I get my hands on it. For now, I need to test if Elite 100 V2 is also struggling with 16ms hold-up PSU or if this is isolated to Elite 30 V2 or possibly load related on the inverter.

I’ve found another user posting that their different, older generation unit, UPS switching time balloons when station is fully charged so this is another angle I will try to explore.
