EB3A23 Cannot sustain function as a UPS

DSP: v2056.15
@BLUETTI_CARE

I’ve been using my Bluetti EB3A23 as a UPS backup for my NAS drive. I periodically receive alerts that my NAS had shutdown improperly and risked damaging the disks. I’m now getting these alerts on average 2x a day.

I have plugged my NAS directly into a wall outlet and I’m no longer getting the alerts. Can the EB3A23 not be used as a long term UPS? At this point I feel it can only be used as battery power for an outage. Logically I think if there is a problem with my home power, I would continue getting the alerts now that it is plugged into a home outlet AND the battery backup of the EB3A23 should be protecting the device from shutdowns if there were a brief power loss in the home. Seems there is a brief, complete failure of power from the EB3A23.

Check if ECO is turned “on”. If “on” turn it “off”. A piece of my 2 cents.

Hi @klambert65, We believe your EB3A is the US version, is that correct? Your firmware is already up to date.
We appreciate @kaycekwan’s suggestion; please confirm that ECO mode is turned off to avoid triggering an automatic shutdown.
At the same time, we recommend that you recalibrate to restore your EB3A to its optimal state.

Please follow the steps below to recalibrate it:

  1. Please discharge all the power (charge AC & DC appliances with the power station) until the SOC is 0%, turn off the machine, and leave it for 3 hours till it cools down.
  2. Please charge it again, please do not load any device when charging it, and do not interrupt it while in charge.

Please let us know if it does help.
If not, please contact us for further service.

Thank you for your reply. I checked and ECO is turned off. I toggled it on and back off again to see if that changes anything.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, this is the US version, and I had received the latest update due to having the issue where the EB3A was shutting off. In this case I’m getting the alert that my NAS was improperly shut down, but by the time that I check, both the EB3A and NAS are running normally. The issue seems to be a brief power loss of AC and Battery. I have been running my NAS plugged directly into a wall outlet over the weekend and the alerts have stopped. I will try the recalibration steps that you have provided and let you know. Thanks again!

Hi @klambert65, Thank you for getting back to us so quickly.
Yes, please try recalibrating to see if it is effective.
Additionally, we would like to know if the EB3A was just fully charged to 100% when the NAS received the alert?

Hi @BLUETTI_CARE,

Yes, it was fully charged and plugged into our home outlet all the time.

I went through the calibration procedure and ran a fan off the AC and charged some devices on DC. I let it cool down overnight. When I plugged unit back into AC power to recharge it in the morning, it immediately displayed 99% even though the battery was drained. Confused by this, I ran the fan again and watched it display down to 95% in about 15 min. The fan shut off at that point and the battery was drained again. So, I let it cool down for a while and then started charging it. It immediately displayed 99% but I let it charge without load. After 90 minutes or so the display changed to 100%.

I decided to try calibration again and ran the fan for several hours today until it stopped. Now it’s cooling down. I’ll try charging it after a few hours and see if the display starts out near 0%.

Thanks, Ken

Hi @klambert65, Thank you for your effort and attempts. I have consulted the R&D department again, and they informed me that there is a new version of the ARM, which may help.

Our IT department will push the latest firmware to your unit in 24 hours.
Please upgrade the firmware tomorrow. Please do not load any device when upgrading it.
Please let us know if it does help.

Hi @BLUETTI_CARE ,

Thank you for your quick responses. I will check for the update tomorrow and test it over the weekend. Will reply back with results and let you know.

Thanks, Ken

Hi @BLUETTI_CARE,

I haven’t received the update yet. I’m still on v2062.03 and it says I’m up to date.

Thanks, Ken

Hi @klambert65, Sorry for the delayed response over the weekend.
We have confirmed that the new ARM v2062.05 has been pushed. Could you please try again?
Please test again after upgrading.

Hi @BLUETTI_CARE,

I did receive the new ARM over the weekend and completed the update. I started the recalibration again. I just plugged it back into AC to recharge. This time it displayed starting at 2% so that’s a good sign. Once it’s fully charged, I’ll try it out running as UPS/AC pass-thru for my NAS again to test it.

Thanks, Ken

Hi @klambert65, You are welcome, we are glad to hear that yo have upgraded it successfully.
Please let us know if any updates.
We hope everything goes smoothly from here!

Hi @BLUETTI_CARE,

I was able to run my NAS for a day or two with no issues. However today I received the same error regarding improper shutdown (loss of power) twice. I did not experience that problem when running directly from the home AC.

Here is the alert that I am receiving from the NAS.

“SynologyNAS ran into a problem and was [improperly shut down] twice or more in the past 24 hours. This may result in severe data loss. We highly recommend using SNMP or USB UPS to protect your device and data if you haven’t done so already. From SynologyNAS”

I feel like we’ve done everything possible to get the EB3A running correctly with a couple of firmware updates and resets. It may be time to start the warranty process.

Thanks, Ken

Hi Ken, We are very sorry about this. Since the firmware upgrade did not help, repair is indeed the next option.
If you have any questions about how to reach the appropriate customer service team or concerns about the service process, please send us a private message with your order information so that we can arrange priority service for you.

Hi @klambert65, We still haven’t gotten your answer, we wonder if this problem is resolved.
Our engineers are very concerned about the issue you encountered. After discussion, they believe that your NAS is too high and exceeds the output of the EB3A.
They recommend upgrading to a bigger model. Hope this helps!
Please feel free to contact us if you need more help.
