I have some questions regarding my AC500.
When using third party solar panels, is the MC4-EVO2 connector supported ?
I am considering : https://solarshop.baywa-re.com.au/Trina-Vertex-500W
Which has a
VMPP of around 43V
VOC of around 51V
And a IMPP of 11.8 A
Producing 500W
I am thinking of using 6 in a 2 x 3 in series configuration and feed directly into the AC500.
Do you have any advise on the MC4-EVO2 connector compatibility with the AC500 as well as the suitability of these panels.
Hi @spottedmouse
Google says: “MC4-EVO2 connectors are fully compatible with standard MC4 connectors”.
So connection shouldnt be a problem. The AC500 can take up to 150V per MPPT. Using three in series per MPPT would overvoltage the MPPT by 3V. This sounds not much and maybe it will work, but it can kill the MPPT. Normally you have 5% -10% of the maximum Input of a MPPT. Solar panels are tested in 25 degrees celcius but tend to have even higher voltage at colder temperaturs.
I would make two series pairs, connected each to one MPPT.
When you want to use three panels, search for a panel that have lower voltage and a bit higher current.
Hope this answer help you
