#BLUETTIXMAS2023 : Christmas in Germany

Hello Everyone!

This is my entry for the #BLUETTIXMAS2023 contest.

In this forum are people from all around the world and im sure everyone’ s christmas is a bit different. After telling a bit about traditional german food in the last contest, i now wanna share how christmas in germany gets celebrated.

The first thing that may be complete different is the name of “Santa Clause”. In Germany we call him “Weihnachtsmann”

The look of our “Weihnachtsmann” is basicly the same as the american “Santa Clause”

How does “Santa Clause” called in your country? Would love to hear it from you!

Whats also different from many other countrys is the day, when the gifts actually “arriving”. In Germany we receive our gifts on 24th december. In many other parts of the world on 25th december.

But how about reciving the gifts? - Well i think this really depends on the family. As a little boy, i need to learn christmas poems. Not my favourite thing to do, but after I had learned the poem and was able to recite it, the joy of the gifts was even greater.

One of the poems i need to learn called “Knecht Ruprecht”. Its a classical poem here. Everyone needs to learn it on one point of the life^^. For all of you, who are curios. This is how it looks like:

But wait, there is more!

After receiving all the gifts, which laying under a “Nordmanntanne”, its time to eat something! I dont know what kind of food get served in other countrys but in germany its mostly really simple food. A all time classic are sausages with potato salad. I think didnt know about it are really wondering about his.

Have a look at here: Kartoffelsalat mit Würstchen Rezept - [ESSEN UND TRINKEN]

What did you expect? Would love to hear your ideas!

Hope you like this little german christmas journey!

Thats my tree this Year! Its actually a bit bigger, but it wasnt that simple to cut it perfectly out

No matter how you celebrate Christmas. I wish you a wonderful holiday season and a great time with your family!

You write that everyone in this forum celebrates Christmas differently.
Well, many people don’t celebrate Christmas at all - there are supposed to be other religions besides Christianity… :-)
