App Bluetooth Password on older units

@BLUETTI_CARE I now have 5 Bluetti power banks. The first AC180 (1) purchased October 2023, an AC70 purchased January 2024 and 2 x AC180s (2 & 3) delivered today. The other is an AC200P purchased by my wife, but not the subject of this post.

I note that the 2 AC180s received today have the ability to have a Bluetooth password, which I have set. This input field is not available for the AC70 or the AC180 (1) purchased in 2023.

I have checked all of the available updates including the BMS for all of these 4 units, via the App and they show up to date. I also have the latest App update (Android) on my mobile phone.

Will there be a firmware update for the AC70 & AC180 (1) I own, to include this capability? Assuming they use the same hardware configuration. Thanks.

Hi @Mandp

The Bluetooth Password/Encryption feature only works on unit with a specific hardware chip in it. This chip was installed in batches. So some units have them and other dont, even when its the same model.

When you units do have the most recent firmware and you cant set it, its most likely that this unit dont have the required hardware.

greetings
Erik

Thanks Erik, I was thinking that might be the case as a firmware update would have easily fixed earlier models.
At least half of my App accessed units are pwd protected, the primary one being the fridge.
We had a power failure 18mths ago that lasted long enough to lose all cold/frozen food. Don’t want that expense or inconvenience again, lol.
Once I’ve set the last unit up tomorrow, I’ll take some pics n post them on my “Real world experience” thread. Cheers, Mike

I have noticed an issue with the App, which is installed on a Samsung Galaxy F3.
After binding my 2 new AC180s, checking connection and updates, I tried to connect to the AC70 and it would not connect. The message I got was “Ac****** not found”. I then tried to connect to the AC180 (1) and got the same message. I then unbound both units followed by adding them as a new unit. Both connected.
However, I have noticed that if I open one unit in the App, which works, back out to the main page showing all 4 units and sellect a 2nd unit to connect to, it searches and I get the error.
I then tried a different approach - Opened the App, checked one unit, then closed the App completely via Android, reopened and selected the next Bluetti and it works. Is there a time pause required when closing from one Bluetti to the next? or, is it necessary to close the App to change to another unit?

This happens in both local offline mode and when logged in.

Hi @Mandp, We believe this issue is not normal. Typically, you shouldn’t need to close the app to connect to a second device.

We would like to confirm whether the AC180 was powered on when this issue occurred. Could you also provide the version of your app and record a video of the issue? Please upload the video to a cloud service and share the link with us for further investigation.

Thank you, @Selfmadestrom, for your detailed response.

I am away on trip at the moment, too far away for Bluetooth, lol. I think I know what may have happened.
After connecting to one of my 4 units, I use the back button to return to the main menu and immediately connect to another one. The 2nd unit tries to connect and I think the phone is still connected/disconnecting from the 1st. Perhaps waiting a few seconds longer may fix this issue.
However, I will have to wait a couple of weeks until I return home.

To another issue, if someone can assist. I got a phone call from my wife last night to tell me that one of my AC180s (used on my main TV & office desk in UPS mode) was not powering the TV. I “walked” her thru diagnostics, to find that it had turned off the AC output. Asking her what was lit up on the screen after I had her turn AC back on, it showed ECO was on, something I had thought was off.
When the TV was turned off the night before and for around 12 hours, ECO had turned off the inverter. Something I can’t fix remotely via the Bluetooth on my mobile phone. To my Q.
Q1. The 2 x AC180s and the AC70 will remain home use and are currently tagged to my phone. If I disconnect them from my App, can I then install the Bluetti App on a spare mobile phone and tag the 3 units to it?
Q2. The spare phone will have WiFi, Bluetooth and location turned on, but no SIM card, so I assume this will still work, is this correct?
This would allow me to again “walk” my wife through controlling all 3 units when I am not at home. (I would still have the 3rd AC180, currently with me, controlled via my phone.)
Q3. This Q may negate my 2 previous questions. I note there is a “Share Device” option in the App settings menu. How does this work? and, Does this mean I can share control on a second device i.e. my wife’s mobile phone? without disconnecting them from my own phone?

Hi @Mandp would it be possible to show us some screen shots of the Bluetooth page on the app just interested and I also have a couple of unit that don’t have the password feature would be a good feature to roll out if it was possible.

I have 2 AC200max and 3 android smartphones and an android tablet that can control them via the bluetti app: no problem. The limitation is that when a smartphone or tablet is connected via bluetooth to an ac200max (or ac180…) none of my other smartphones or tablets can connect to this battery until the bluetti app on the connected smartphone has disconnected from the battery.

moreover, no need for sim card, 5g, lte, 4g or other cellular connection: only bluetooth and gps/location are necessary: 2 of my old smartphones at home do not have a connection to the cellular network and neither does my tablet.
finally, in your situation (need for remote control) I set up an old smartphone without a cellular network but connected via wifi to my home wifi. I installed the teamviewer client and the bluetti app of course. and on my new, last smartphone which is in my pocket, I installed the main teamviewer app (free). with my smartphone I can take control of my old smartphone at home which has remained near my bluetti generators, and it allows me to remotely launch the bluetti app on the old smartphone at home to control all of my generators.

@Snips1 Thanks for this info, will have a look. Sorry for the delay, been tripping and had no mobile phone or internet for a few days.

@Ktt The one thing I’ve noticed. If I connect to my new AC180s, there is a password prompt in the App. If I connect to the older AC180 or AC70, this prompt is not there.
As @Selfmadestrom mentioned above, it is a hardware mod to later units and therefore the Bluetooth connection on older units won’t trigger the App password function.
Sorry for delay, been remote with no phone or internet.
