AC180P Recharging the battery every 2 hours

Hello, I bought a new AC180P, I use it as a UPS for my computer.
The load is 60-120 watts, but every about 2 hours the battery starts charging from 99% to 100% and the cooler starts making noise (on quiet mode).
I have a question, is there a workaround? Why would it drain the battery by 1% if there is no loss of power output?
Can you do the firmware for me, please, so that the battery doesn’t drain when there is power at the outlet? If not, at least make the battery c

harge start at 90%.
PS: Tried different modes in the app, doesn’t help.

Hi @James_UA

welcome to the Bluetti Community!

The UPS deliever as much power as needed fot the device you want to power. So if you load is taking 120W, the AC180P delievers 120W. The battery drain from 100% to 99% happen because the powerstation itself also consume energy thats not beeing covered. Its also really unhealthy for the battery to stay at 100% all the time. Small cycles help the battery health.

Its a total normal behavior.

About loud fan, there are lot of articles about. Use the search

greetings
Erik

I don’t like this behavior, is it possible to make charging start from 90% for example?
Or that the cooler does not turn on for charging at 1%, or that the battery is not discharged in UPS mode

Very please help, it is not comfortable to sit in a quiet room with noise every 2 hours

Hey @James_UA

You could set the SoC to 90% for example, but the behavior would be the same. The fan always starts when charging is started. Quiet mode could help in slower charge and less fan noice

And can you tell me where I can set 90% to start charging?
And I have the quiet mode set, but I don’t like the noise anyway.

Hi @James_UA, When the AC180P is fully charged, to avoid overcharging, the machine automatically stops charging and starts discharging. During this process, the battery level may drop to 99%, at which point it will begin charging again until it reaches 100%.

During both charging and discharging, the internal temperature of the battery cells increases, causing the fan to automatically turn on for cooling purposes. Unfortunately, the fan cannot be manually turned off, nor can this be achieved through a firmware upgrade, as it depends on not only the load power but also the internal cell temperature and environmental conditions. We recommend placing the AC180P in a well-ventilated, cool area or using an external fan to help with cooling.

We understand that you would like the AC180P to start charging from 90%, but currently, we cannot provide this feature. It might be something considered for future models, as it may involve hardware changes, which cannot be resolved through software alone.

Thank you, @Selfmadestrom, for the detailed and accurate explanation.

Can you consider adding a 50-100W “super quiet charging” feature to the phone app without turning on the fan for people with a problem like mine.
The 350W silent charging is very loud, the cooler picks up high rpm and gets quieter over time and that every 2 hours I really don’t like.

If developing an additional feature in the app is not feasible for most users, can you personally make just a firmware for me with a fix for the cooler noise during silent charging?

An alternative solution in your case is to use a smart plug (compatible with tuya or smartlife). You program the hours during which the plug is on, and therefore your ac180 can recharge and the hours when you work next to it and it does not only recharge the ac180. You will not have the ventilation linked to the charge. Of course this assumes that your battery lasts in the interval between 2 charges.

Hi @James_UA, Thank you for your feedback; I have passed it on to the engineers. However, we believe this might be quite difficult.

If we were to control the fan, it could affect the cooling efficiency, and inadequate cooling could lead to overheating of the battery, causing a range of issues. In terms of results, it could be counterproductive.

Thanks to @Snips1 for the helpful suggestion.

First of all, thank you very much, we are waiting for an answer from the engineers.

Secondly, my problem is not only me, I know my friends who have the same station, they also do not like this behavior of the station.
Therefore, if you do not solve this problem, I can not recommend to buy this station, I will write in the reviews that there are unpleasant nuances.
I purposely bought a more expensive station from a name brand in the hope that there will be no problems. Knowing in advance that it turns on the vetilators every 2 hours to replenish the battery by 1%, I would not have bought it.
Respectfully, I hope for your understanding.

All power stations used for pass through Aka (UPS / EMS) share this same behavior. If the noise of the fans disturbs you and your friends, put the power station in another room, out of earshot & connect an extension cord.

Bluetti can’t realistically do custom firmware updates for individual users.

Hi @James_UA, Thank you for sharing your feedback, we genuinely understand your perspective.
Our engineers believe that effective cooling is more important than the impact of fan noise, so they have decided not to create new firmware for this. Forcing the fan to turn off and compromising cooling performance would not be worthwhile.

Thanks to @Emax for their insights and suggestions. This has been very helpful.

Hello, I find myself in the same situation, recently bought a new AC180P and trying to use it as a UPS, connected permanently to the wall power socket.

@BLUETTI_CARE - could you please confirm if this behavior is ‘normal’, and the unit is not up for warranty? (the behavior described in the thread - " every about 2 hours the battery starts charging from 99% to 100% and the cooler starts making noise, on quiet mode" )

Hi @Mastic, We believe this is normal behavior.
After the AC180P is fully charged, it will automatically stop charging to prevent overcharging and potential damage to the battery. Charging will resume once the battery discharges to around 99%.
At this point, continuous charging could cause the battery cells to heat up, so the fan will automatically turn on for cooling.
Please place the AC180P in a well-ventilated area to avoid heat buildup.

So this confirms that AC180P doesn’t have a trickle charge circuit and/or the internal circuit its always consuming power from the batteries, even when its connected to external power source. Right now I find all the promotional information very misleading…

@BLUETTI_CARE - Is there any power station model which behaves like a classic UPS? That is, being able to keep the battery at 100% without constantly recharging from 99% to 100% ?

I have different Cyberpower UPS models which are dead silent all the time, except when the power gets interrupted and switches to the battery.

Hi @Mastic, The AC180P does indeed have a trickle charge mode. You may observe that when it’s about to be fully charged, the charging power will decrease. This is completely normal.

Please note that when the power station reaches 100% charge, it will automatically stop charging. This is absolutely necessary as continuous charging could lead to overcharging. All our current power stations are designed this way. Battery maintenance is something both we and our numerous users take very seriously.

The power station does generate heat during charging and discharging processes. The automatic fan activation is for heat dissipation. If you find the AC180P’s fan noise too loud, we would recommend the Elite 200 V2, which has excellent noise reduction performance.

I have tested the Elite 200 V2 and confirm that this model has it all, Bluetti listened to its customers -

  • proper trickle charge mode - it stays constantly at 100%, as compared to the AC180P which drops to 99% after 2h
  • very silent
  • small package
  • wifi & bluetooth

@BLUETTI_CARE - for the AC180P model, is there any workaround for the constant discharge to 99%? Like adding a threshold so that it will drop to 85-90% first, before starting the recharging cycle again?

Hi @Mastic, Thank you for your recognition of the Elite 200 V2. Yes, the Elite 200 V2 is one of our latest models — not only does it meet the expectations of many users, but it also incorporates our newest technologies.

We recommend using a smart plug to control the AC180P’s charging schedule. You can estimate the time needed to charge the unit fully and set the charging time in advance. From what we know, many users choose smart plugs and have had a great and convenient experience with them. However, we don’t have a specific brand to recommend — feel free to choose a product based on rankings and performance on Amazon.
