I’m trying to charge my AC180P using a 8000W/220V gas generator, but fail with unstable grid message.
I have enabled Grid Self-Adaptation, and it fails anyway.
Checking the input AC on the app, the generator oscilates between 212 V and 225 V.
As the battery ramps up, the generator tries to compensate but voltage oscilates too much and it fails with a GRID message flashing.
I’ve tried to add a load to stabilize it, but that fails too.
Can you please provide a firmare with more relaxed input voltage range so I can use my generator?
In my experience with other similar products, loading the generator with 200+ watts before connect did the trick. I see you already did this. Check/replace the generators AVR ( automatic voltage regulator). Good Luck . I have an AC180 too.
Greetings
most generator that dont have a inverter output will do that on any power bank like Bluetti. I tried to charge a Ecoflow on my neighbour non-inverter 10 000W generator and the Ecoflow would not charge either. Its related to the THD, here is a AI answer on this:
Regular Generators produce AC power directly through a mechanical alternator driven at a constant speed. This creates raw AC power with voltage and frequency fluctuations since the engine speed is fixed and can’t adjust to changing loads. The resulting waveform often has higher total harmonic distortion (THD), sometimes with a modified sine wave (choppy, less smooth), which can be damaging or less efficient for sensitive electronics like laptops and power stations.
Inverter Generators convert the initial raw AC power to direct current (DC) and then electronically invert it back into AC power with a highly controlled pure sine wave. This process results in very low THD (typically under 3%), producing clean, stable, and smooth AC output that mimics the quality of utility power. Low distortion protects sensitive devices from damage caused by voltage spikes or unstable frequency.
you dont need to open the generator. Just look at the brand and model number and look up on the internet. Inverter generator came popular just a few years ago so if its a old generator its probably not equip with a inverter.
