AC180 Short No AC output

As the title says my AC180 is flashing “short” and the green AC indicator is also flashing. The unit will charge for a while but after what seems a random amout of time a relay will trip and charging will stop. It is only used to power a 45 watt 9" fan and is charged from an sc outlet. I’ve tried turning on and off eco mode in the app but thats about all I can see to try.

Hi @Misterfireking, Please log in to the Bluetti app and check if all the firmware is up to date. If not, please update it first, then try disabling the ECO mode.

Additionally, we would like to know the battery level of the AC180 at the time of the issue. Please also check if there are any historical fault codes.

My Bluetti AC180 is doing the same thing. I just purchased 2 weeks ago. Plugged it in and charged it to 100%. Then plugged in my computers because the power was scheduled to be off for 6 hours. The power never went out to my house, however the “Short” light started flashing on My Bluetti and my computers went dead. The battery level of the AC180 at the time of issue was 100% because it was still plugged in and the power had not yet gone out. Help!

Similar to above two situations – battery was at 100%, plugged into the grid, running a pellet stove on low (drawing 50-80w) on AC through the unit to take advantage of the UPS feature., Brand new unit – after a few hours running perfectly, it quit suddenly with a SHORT message. Completed the troubleshooting suggestions on the app, which included disabling ECO, going to SILENT mode from STANDARD, and checking for updates (there were none), but am now not confident about leaving the house with the stove running. Might you have any further thoughts? Thanks.

Here is the chat I had with Bluetti. They essentially said they can’t tell for sure whether there is something wrong with the unit. I need to decide whether to return it now, or wait to see if it happens again.

says:The AC180 has been on for the seven days since it arrived and has been working perfectly. Briefly, today the red SHORT circuit alert light came on (steady, not blinking), and power to the AC devices shut off (it was being used as a UPS). The unit was at 92% instead of 100%. . This was a problem because the devices were off all day, I wasn’t home, and my wife didn’t know why things were off. Also, the devices powered by the AC180 need to stay on without interruption (one reason I bought the AC180). There were no changes to anything. The devices were only drawing 38 Watts. . I turned the unit off and then on again, and it is working fine now. . I need to understand what happened. If there’s any chance this is going to happen again, I will (regretfully) return the AC180 to Amazon. . What happened and is it likely to happen again? . Thanks!

Laura says:hi, this is Laura from the BLUETTI support team

Laura says:what can i do for you?

says:I have asked this in an email, but haven’t gotten a satisfactory response yet.

Laura

Laura says:Okay

Laura says:Let me check the history

Laura says:One second

says:Thanks.

says:Bathroom break, BRB.

Laura

Laura says:Okay

says:I’m back.

Laura

Laura says:Got it

Laura says:There are many possible reasons for a short circuit error, but generally if the power station can work normally after disconnecting the equipment and restarting the power station, then there is no problem with the power station.

says:What do you think happened?

says:Can I access any error codes, or are those now gone?

Laura

Laura says:Please wait for a while, let me check how to some information.

says:Thanks.

Laura

Laura says:You can press and hold the DC and AC button for a while and then press and hold the DC button enter the error page

Laura says:You will see the error code here

says:Okay, I’m going to do that now

says:That did not work. I held the two buttons down for 15 seconds. The 50 Hz light came on and the 60 Hz light blinked. Pressing again, the 50 Hz light went out and the 60 Hz light stayed on.

says:That’s all that happened.

Laura

Laura says:when the 50 HZ, keep press and hold the DC button for a while

Laura says:Sorry i didn’t say that clearly.

Laura says:Could you please try again?

says:E013 E000

Laura

Laura says:Thank you

Laura says:Sorry for waiting

Laura says:And may i know the SN number of the AC180?

Laura says:We can help to contact with techinique to push the newest frimware version to you see if it can help to solve this problem.

Laura says:And this error code E013 is not saying the short error issue, it is about AC charging.

says:Where is the serial number?

says:I updated recently

Laura

Laura says:When you use the AC180 as UPS, could you please open the self grid adaption mode at app’s Advanced Setting?

Laura says:It starts with AC180xxxxx

Laura says:The SN number

1-3.png

says:Mine doesn’t display the SN, just “AC180 Living Room” which I entered.

says:No, I got it now.

says:AC1802442003881797

Laura

Laura says:Thank you

Laura

Laura says:Got it

Laura says:We will contact with the techinique to do this, they will push the frimware version to you after 24 hours.

Laura says:So please keep eyes on the frimware version at the app after 24 hours.

says:Okay. BMS is v1052.03

says:Do you know that updating the firmware will fix this problem?

Laura

Laura says:Generally speaking, firmware updates may can help to solve this problem

says:I’ve enabled Grid Self-adaption. Is that what you meant?

Laura

Laura says:Yes

says:Do you think that the error wouldn’t have happened if GSA was enabled?

Laura

Laura says:The E013 error code tells us that the grid relay is faulty. This is usually caused by a problem with the AC input of the power station. Therefore, we recommend that you enable Self grid adaption to avoid this error.

says:When you say “grid relay is faulty” you don’t mean that there is something wrong in the AC180?

says:What does that mean?

Laura

Laura says:Let me double check that

Laura says:Please wait for mintues

says:Okay.

Laura

Laura says:Thank you

Laura says:Thank you for your patience. This error may be caused by the specifications of the power grid not being compatible with the AC180 input, or it may be a fault with the AC180.

Laura says:If the problem can be solved by turning on the grid adaptive mode or updating the firmware, then it is just caused by the discrepancy between the AC input specifications and the AC180 requirements.

says:So I have to decide: Return it to Amazon now or wait and see if it happens again.

says:I need to be sure this won’t happen, and I don’t want to go through a situation where I have to convince Bluetti that it should be replaced under warranty.

says:If it’s caused by the discrepancy between the AC input specifications and the AC180 requirements, that means the AC180 won’t work for me in my environment.

Laura

Laura says:Okay.

Laura says:It depends on your choice.

says:What would you do?

Laura

Laura says:May i know when you purchase AC180?

says:I ordered it on Nov 25 and it arrived on Dec 2.

Laura

Laura says:Thank you. We’re sorry that we can’t give you clear advice, but here are some infromation for you , hope it can help you to do the decision. because it is within 30 days, accoding to our company policy, you can chose to return it to us for replacement or for refund. We will send you a return label.

Laura says:So after trying, if it ot suitable for you, you can chose to return us for refund, if you want to try it again, you can chioce to return for replacement.

says:Note that the unit is connected via a surge protector. Does that make any difference?

Laura

Laura says:Because some thunderstorms may cause the power grid to generate some peak currents, the surge protector can provide some protection for the input of the power station when such currents are generated, so we recommend connecting a surge protector if possible.

says:Okay, thanks. I will think about it. Can you send the return label that I can use if I decide to (before Jan 2)?

Laura

Laura says:We have a process for returns. If you need it, you can contact us and we will communicate with you the specific steps and details of the return.

says:Okay. If you have any more information, please send it to me at foggybeach@gmail.com.

Laura

Laura says:Got it.

Laura says:Anything else i can help you maybe?

says:Thanks. Nothing else. Bye.

Hey, PianoA1. Reset ours and it ran till now, but same thing ("short" error) happened last night, same exact m.o., for no apparent reason.

I didn't do the same as you -- getting to an agent who suggested they could "push" a firmware update to you -- can I ask if you went ahead and did that? And, if so, did it work? Or did you maybe decide to return or exchange your unit? Thanks very much -- as you know well, it's pretty frustrating to buy the thing for a specific purpose, and feeling like you can't rely on it. Hope you got something figured out...

Hi, Michael,
.
I did what they suggested, and it hasn’t happened again, so far. I didn’t see the version change after they “pushed” a new version. I decided not to return it after, in an email exchange, the agent said that if it happens again in the future, I could return it for a replacement. Here is what Luna from Bluetti said in an email:
.
“If the unit doesn’t report the error after you do the troubleshooting, it is fine. You can keep monitoring the unit to see if it still has any issues. You don’t need to worry about the 30-day return warranty, even if the issue happens again after 30 days, we will still provide a replacement.”
.
I can’t say for sure that anything has changed, but it’s looking good. That is, it failed after seven days, and since following their advice, it has worked without the error for 23 days.
.
I’d recommend a chat with Bluetti so you have it on record that the problem happened when it was new, make the changes recommended in the chat, and then hope that it doesn’t happen again. I understand your frustration.
.
Good luck, and let me know if you learn anything new.
.
Al

Thanks, PianoAI, for the response. Glad to hear so far, so good for you, and that Luna from Bluetti will make an exception for you to the 30-day rule if your AC180 goes south again. This seems really dumb, but, in looking at both this forum and the Bluetti site, I'm apparently too dumb to figger out how to get into a chat with a bot, a human, or anything else.
I'm worried you might be dealing with a moron here -- if you can take that risk, man, I'd be happy to hear how you got into a chat with these folks...
                      Thanks,
                      Michael
