AC180 goes from 65% to 90% in seconds

Did the “reset” by draining it out of power (constant W consumption). Then recharged in Standard more via a home power plug. That seemed to have worked to make my Bluetti behave normally. For a day…today it jumped from 65% to 92% in a few seconds.

Problem is we live in a motorhome and rely on Bluetti as our secondary battery. We already purchased the Charger 1 which puts up 500W. But now it can only basically charge 65% of Bluetti since the “meter” is probably confused and thinks it is 100% to then stop the charge.

It is not easy for us to do these “resets” and I am deeply disappointed in a product I paid 650 Euros for. I have another Eco Worthy 250 Euros battery, same capacity, and it never behaved like this.

Please help me fix this Bluetti battery. What more can be done?

I have 3 x AC180s and did a reset on all 3 about 2 weeks ago, with no issues. I used grid power to recharge, using Silent mode to recharge as time was not an issue.
The load, when discharging should be constant and although not mandated, I keep it to around 25% i.e. of the inverter output. Approx 450W give or take. A fridge cycling on/off is not a preferred load. Also, without switching the AC180 off during that discharge cycle. When recharging, set it going and don’t interrupt until 100%.

Hi @Tio, From your description, it seems that the SOC (State of Charge) displayed on this AC180 is indeed inaccurate.

Could you please provide your AC180’s SN code and the current firmware version? Our new firmware can fix this issue.
A recalibration would also be very helpful. The calibration process involves discharging first, followed by recharging. Does this help?

Additionally, could you let us know the temperature inside your RV? This could also affect the battery’s performance.

Thanks to @Mandp for their answers and sharing; it’s been very helpful.

Thanks guys!

So the SN: AC1802433000719934
IOT: v9046.01
ARM: 2124.03
DSP: v2126.03

I did this 2 times and it improved a bit I think, but still unstable…

The lowest temperature is around 2C and highest 25C.

Hi @Tio, We still need the current BMS version number of your AC180. Could you please click the “Version” icon next to the BMS to retrieve it?

Once we have that, we will attempt to push the new BMS firmware for you.

Hi! Unfortunately I cannot see that:

My Bluetti App version is 2.3.13

Hi @Tio, I am sorry for the inconvenience.
It seems that the new version of the app has changed the BMS display interface.
Please click on the SOC icon in the middle to find the correct BMS version.

Then, we will send you the new firmware.

Ah yes I see. It is v1052.03

Hi @Tio, Thank you for getting back to us so quickly.
We have applied to upgrade your BMS, our IT department will push the latest version of firmware to your machine in 24 hours. Please upgrade it tomorrow.

After that, please try to do a complete cycle of discharge and charge to correct the SOC. The problem will be resolved.
Please follow the steps below to recalibrate it:

  1. Please discharge all the power (charge AC & DC appliances with the power station) until the SOC is 0%, turn off the machine, and leave it for 3 hours till it cools down.
  2. Please charge it again, please do not load any device when charging it, and do not interrupt it while in charge.

You can click this link for reference.

Please let us know if it does help.

Ok thanks. I have some questions:

  1. Do I have to discharge it after it is 100% or I can discharge it regardless how charged it is?
  2. Do I have to discharge at a constant rate like some people were suggesting in this thread?
  3. When I charge it, do I have to charge it at a constant rate as well?

Thanks!

Hi @Tio, Yes, when recalibrating, please charge the unit to 100%. This is to set the correct starting point (0%) and ending point (100%) for the power station, maximizing the utilization of its full capacity.
Using a constant load during discharge is the best option. However, if you do not have such a load or are short on time, using other high-power non-constant loads is also acceptable.

The same applies to charging. We recommend using a stable AC power source. If this is not convenient, other power sources can also be used. Please ensure that no loads are connected during the charging process and do not interrupt it until it is fully charged to 100%.

I see. It is going to be quite a challenge when you live in a motorhome. Perhaps we can put the fridge to run on Bluetti to discharge it then charge only from Charger 1 with 500W constant.

However I still did not get the update…waiting for that…and then I can test.

Hi @Tio, we have pushed the new BMS v1052.04 to your AC180, can you log into the Bluetti app and check it again?
Please let us know if it works.

I see the update now. Thanks. Will update and will try to do a reset as you suggested. May take a few days since we are traveling and not that easy to charge 100% then discharge while in the motorhome.

Update: after the update the battery level dropped from some 65% to 10%…interesting…

Hi @Tio, we recommend that customers recalibrate the battery after upgrading the BMS. If not, please recalibrate it first.

Did the power loss occur after the recalibration? Could the upgrade have consumed some battery power during the process?

After recalibration, the battery will reset the starting value to 0% and the endpoint value to 100%. At this point, the displayed SOC value will be more accurate. You can discharge the battery to test if the actual capacity matches the displayed SOC.

No the power loss occurred after the update. We are yet to do a recalibration since it is not easy living in a motorhome and relying on a Bluetti unit to discharge from 100% at the same rate, to then leave it for 3 hours, to then charge again at a constant rate to 100% while not having anything plugged into it.

I hope we can do it these days and I will report back…

Hi @Tio, I am sorry for the inconvenience.
We understand that recalibration can be quite a hassle. Please do it when it’s convenient for you.
We’re always here waiting for you. Once you have any updates, feel free to @BLUETTI_CARE.
