I recently found out that my EB55 display was providing bad info. It wouldn’t charge much, as it was acting full. However, I believe it was actually low in charge; critically low.
I put a load on it until the unit turned off. I have tried loads as high as 500W and as low as 10W. These were the first time I saw the display showing “bars” disappearing (for SoC), in a long time. Before, only the top bar would ever blink, every time I charged it. I routinely checked the unit to make sure it was charged, about every other week. It was at my parents’ house as a backup battery for them.
After draining the battery until it turns off, it repeatedly takes only about 30Wh of charge, with the AC charger unit before it stops taking current. I have also tried low power 50W DC charging and the result is the same (it just takes longer on average). On DC it starts at ~50W then goes down to 4-5W half the time and 0 half the time for several minutes before it once again stops taking current.
When pushing all 3 buttons, the codes displayed are:
• U150
• E000
I reached out to Bluetti support and since it’s out of warranty, they are recommending a new unit, due to shipping costs and potential cost of repair. I will do this, but I really don’t like the idea of e-wasting the EB55.
I am a ham with some experience soldering. Do you think it’s worth my time to try and open it up and swap out the batteries? I think the batteries are the problem, caused by chronic low charge as a result of the display being faulty.
Thank you,
